The Indian equities continued to trade lower in a narrow range on Thursday, tracking weak cues from Asian peers,as investors resorted to profit booking ahead of the key global events due today which may have domestic implications. The European Central Bank will announce its monetary policy review today, while UK will have general election and the former FBI chief James Come will give his testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee. At 12:25 hours, the 30-share barometer Sensex was at 31225.46, down by 45.82 points or by 0.15 per cent, and the NSE Nifty was at 9658.15, down by 5.75 points or by 0.06 per cent. In the day’s trade so far, the BSE Sensex touched intra-day high of 31354.51 and intraday low of 31214.35, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 9688.7 and intraday low of 9643.05. Bucking the trend, the broader market were trading higher, with the BSE MIDCAP trading at 14832.02, up by 31.17 points or by 0.21 per cent, while the BSE SMLCAP was at 15464.65, up by 38.79 points or by 0.25 per cent.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 2643.15,+4.02%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 529.00,+3.49%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 506.00,+3.04%), Cipla Ltd. (Rs. 551.85,+2.31%), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1628.95,+1.96%), among others. On the flip side, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2531.95,-3.19%), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 391.15,-2.83%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 170.15,-1.33%), Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 3793.20,-1.32%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1415.50,-1.20%), were among the top losers on BSE.

On the sectoral front, IT and Teck stocks emerged as top losers, falling as much as 1.42 per cent and 1.20 per cent, respectively. The market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was strong. On BSE out of total shares traded 2679, shares advanced were 1300 while 1242 shares declined and 137 were unchanged.
