The Indian benchmarks are set to open lower on Thursday tracking weak global cues as well as volatility on the domestic front.

The investors are expected to remain cautious ahead of the key exit polls data for assembly elections in five states that is set to release later on Thursday.

Asian markets opened subdued as traders eyed commodity prices and rising expectations of a tighter monetary policy by the US Federal Reserve at its meet next week, while Wall Street closed lower as investors dealt with plunging oil prices and digested scorching ADP employment data.

Muted trend in the SGX Nifty Index Futures for March delivery, which were trading at 8,908.00, down by 48.00 points or 0.54 per cent, at 11:02 AM Singapore time, signaled a flat to lower opening for Sensex. On the corporate front, Dr Reddy’s could be on under pressure after the company received 13 observations for its Duvvuda oncology facility by the US Food and Drug Administration.

On Wednesday, the Indian equity benchmark indices ended lower weighed down by oil, metals, auto, infra and select private banks stocks, ahead of the exit polls data and results for assembly elections in five states and the US Federal Reserve policy meeting next week. The 30-share barometer index of Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex closed at 28901.94, down by 97.62 points or by 0.34 per cent, and the NSE Nifty ended at 8924.3, down by 22.6 points or by 0.25 per cent.

Top traded Volumes on NSE Nifty – Hindalco Industries Ltd. 19426738.00, GAIL (India) Ltd. 16315865.00, Idea Cellular Ltd. 12028325.00, ICICI Bank Ltd. 11790681.00, Reliance Industries Ltd. 9906103.00. On NSE, total number of shares traded was 101.45 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 22250.07 Crore.

On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 233342 with a total turnover of Rs. 17058.79 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 608387 with a total turnover of Rs. 43077.77 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 4886854 with a total turnover of Rs. 384211.81 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 334346 with a total turnover of Rs. 24439.24 Crore.The FIIs on 08/03/2017 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 4853.97 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 265.04 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 3965.24 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 59.13 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. 888.73 Crore and Rs. 205.91
